The Dover Motor Speedway is a racing facility in the United States. It was previously known as Dover Downs International Speedway before becoming Dover International Speedway and was the largest mid-Atlantic sports facility in 2001. The Melvin Joseph Construction Company, which also built the "Monster Mile" racetrack, erected it in 1969 and constructed a racetrack mainly used for vehicles and horse racing. The Mason-Dixon 300 was the first-ever race event, which took place on a speedway racetrack in July 1896, and the winner was Richard Petty. Dover Downs International Speedway changed the asphalt surface to concrete in 1995. The structure of Speedway has one layout, a mile-long (1.6 km) concrete oval with a banking angle of 24 degrees in the bends and 9 degrees in the straights. The NASCAR Cup Series was the second event organized at the Speedway racetrack, which took place on a surface entirely constructed of concrete after Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Dover Speedway hosted the first two NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series (now known as the Xfinity Series) races and the Sportsman 200. The Speedway canceled all non-NASCAR-sanctioned events to focus on the two 500-mile NASCAR Winston Cup Series during the 1971 racing season. The Dover International Speedway modified the NASCAR Cup Series race length to 400 miles starting with the 1997 autumn event. From 1971 until 2020, the circuit hosted at least one NASCAR Cup Series race per year. In addition to NASCAR, it hosts two events annually for the USAC and the Indy Racing League. The event, however, was discontinued after the 1999 season. In 2000, Speedway organized the first-ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, in which Kurt Busch won from the pole position. The racetrack increased its 10,333 seat capacity by 3,200 every year in 1986, and 135,000 was the maximum seat capacity. Dover International Speedway was renamed in 2002 after Dover Downs Gaming and Entertainment separated, becoming Dover Motorsports.

The racetrack underwent an improvement project known as "The Monster Makeover," which increased and improved the track's facilities from 2007 to 2009. The Dover International Speedway constructed another 12-suite skybox perplex and another 2,100-square-foot expansion for the media community in the field. Other enhancements included wider paths behind three modern grandstands, restrooms, more clearly marked exiting areas, and longer transport stops. The second installment of "Monster Makeover" was finished in 2008. The Monster Monument, a 46-foot-tall fiberglass structure, was created in the new Victory Plaza during the stage, as did the FanZone area and an emergency services building. A year later, the Dover International Speedway enlarged the racecourse project by adding a second pit stall and a wide, safer pit road by changing the front stretch rail guard with a longer, more secure barrier wall.

Since 2011, the Monster Mash Marathon has held a track event. It is a half-and full-marathon running competition that starts at the pit road entrance, completes one lap of the track, and exits at the start-finish line crossover gate. Runners pass Dover before ending in front of the Monster Miles statue at the marathon course entrance gate. The Woodland of Dover international Speedway ground beside Speedway organized The Firefly Festival musical event in 2012. Firefly uses Dover International Speedway's facilities for camping and parking. Throughout the event, the field at Dover International Speedway has been used solely for RV (recreational vehicle) camping. The track began building a new catch fence for the 2015 season as part of a $2.9 million investment in 2014. The upgraded catch fence is 21 feet (6.4 m) tall, whereas the original catch fence was 15 feet (4.6 m) tall. Due to declining attendance, Dover International Speedway began removing moderate numbers of seats in turns 2 and 3 immediately after 2014, decreasing the track's capacity to 95,500. On May 6, 2019, work on this $5.5 million enlarged improvement project began and would be finished by September 20, 2019, in time for the racing season in October 2019. Dover International Speedway installed a new and extended Cup Series garage between turns 1 and 2. In 2021, Dover International Speedway relocated one of its race weekends to Nashville Superspeedway, another Dover Motorsports-owned facility. Speedway Motorsports bought Dover Motorsports, the facility's owner, on November 8, 2021. As a result, Speedway Motorsports assumed control of the facility and changed its name to Dover Motor Speedway.
